Australian Sam Stosur has won her way through to the quarter-finals at Roland Garros, with an impressive straight sets win over world No.6 Simona Halep.

Stosur won 7-6(0), 6-3 in a rain affected match.

At 3-5 down in the first set, play was stopped on Monday due to heavy rain. The match resumed on Tuesday, with Stosur launching a brilliant comeback to take the opening set in a tiebreak.

With a 3-2 lead in the second set after a break of serve, rain halted play again, this time for two hours and 43 minutes. When play resumed, Stosur consolidated her break and took control of the match, before taking out the second set 6-3.

It is the first time the former US Open champion has reached the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam since the 2012 US Open.

She will play either world No. 2 Agnieszka Radwanska or Tsvetana Pironkova for a place in the semi-final on Wednesday.

Stosur reached the final at Roland Garros in 2010, losing to Francesca Schiavone and has reached the semi-final on two occasions (2009, 2012).
