Gavrilova wins maiden WTA title

Australian Daria Gavrilova has won her maiden WTA title, defeating Dominika Cibulkova in the Connecticut Open final.

Gavrilova defeated the former grand slam finalist in three rollercoaster sets 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the US Open warm-up event.

The 22-year-old will now rise into the world’s top-20 for the first time in her career.

Gavrilova is seeded 25th for next week’s US Open.
