Nick Kyrgios has pulled the pin early on his 2017 season due to an ongoing hip complaint.

The 22-year-old will instead focus on ensuring he is fully fit for a strong tilt at January's Australian Open.

“Unfortunately due to the reoccurence of my hip injury which I originally suffered at Queen's, I am shutting down my season to make sure I can rehab and prepare as best as I possibly can for the Australian summer,” Kyrgios wrote in a statement on Twitter.

“Unless I want this to escalate into an injury that requires surgery, I need to listen to my body and my team.

“This year hasn't been as successful as I would have liked, especially at the Slams.

“It's no secret that I have had some sad moments to deal with away from the court which have added to my disappointments throughout the year.”

Kyrgios reached the final of the China Open earlier this month, going down to Rafael Nadal as he looked to be on the right course to turn the corner from his controversial behaviour.

However, he was in the headlines once again a few days later, when he walked off court mid-match for what appeared to be simply due to losing the first set.
