Nick Kyrgios has won his biggest tennis title to date, taking out his first ATP-500 level final at the Japan Open.

The Australian No.1 was two points from defeat before taking down Belgium’s David Goffin 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 in the final in Tokyo.

Kyrgios’s two previous ATP titles came at ATP250 level events, both this year in Marseilles, France and Atlanta, Georgia.

World No.15 Kyrgios had been two points from defeat against the 14th-ranked Goffin at 4-5 in the third set, but his serve, which accounted for 24 aces in the final held solid.

The 21-year-old had made only one final prior to this year, a runner-up finish in Estoril last year.
