Nick Kyrgios is through to the second round of the US Open after a straight sets win over Englishman Aljaz Bedene.

Kyrgios wrapped up the match in a little under two hours, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.

After racing to a 5-2 lead in the opening set, he called for the trainer after battling hip troubles. However, he overcame the niggle to hit 43 winners and 14 aces en route to the round of 64.

However, his win was not without controversy.

Kyrgios refused to shake the umpire's hand after the match, after a disagreement in the first game of the first set.

He received a code violation after aggressively hitting a ball after losing a rally.

The chair umpire deemed the ball to be hit dangerously close to a lineman.

“You're giving me a code violation for hitting the ball too hard. I've heard it all now,” Kyrgios said.

The 21-year-old will face Argentine Horacio Zeballos in the second round, who defeated Florian Mayer 6-3, 6-4, 7-6.
