The father of former Australian tennis champion Mark Philippoussis, has been arrested in the US over child sex offences.

Nick Philippoussis was arrested at his home in San Diego in the suburb of Mira Mesa on Tuesday local time.

The 68-year-old, who works as a tennis coach, is alleged to have molested two minors who took tennis lessons from him.

“Philippoussis works as a personal tennis coach in Northern San Diego County and the alleged molestation victims took tennis lessons from him,” lieutenant Rylaarsdam said in a statement.

“The investigation is ongoing at this time.”

Nick Philippoussis played a big part in his son's tennis career, working as his coach and manager as different times.

Mark was a two-time grand slam finalist, won two Davis Cup titles with Australia and reached a career high ranking of No.8 in the world.
