Australian journeyman, John Millman has continued his good form at the US Open, advancing to the third round at Flushing Meadows for the first time, with a 6-1 7-6 (7-1) 6-1 win over Tunisia's Malek Jaziri.
If Millman can win his next match, he will advance to the fourth round of a major for the first time in his career.
The 28-year-old will face either German Philipp Kohlschreiber or Colombian Santiago Giraldo, both of whom are unseeded.
By advancing to the third round, Millman is set to rise around 60 places in the rankings. He is currently playing under an injury protected ranking following a shoulder reconstruction earlier this year and is ranked at 235 in the world.
Despite having to play twice in less than 24 hours due to rain postponing his first round clash with Nick Kyrgios, Millman said he was pleased with how he felt during the match.
“I knew that I would be playing in less than 24 hours time and that is a tough back up, especially with my body the way it is. It was uncharted waters for me,” Millman said post-match.
“I haven't really done the best-of-five back-up in less than 24 hours, so I was probably slightly apprehensive yesterday as to how my body would pull up.
“I am extremely happy with the level I am at and how I am hitting the ball.
“I am starting to play the big points better, which is really important when you are coming back from injury."
