Another big name player has been knocked out of the Australian Open, with Venus Williams suffering a first round loss to Brit Johanna Konta.

Konta defeated the four-time Australian Open champion 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the second round of the Australian Open for the first time.

After a tight first set, Konta raced away to a 5-0 lead in the second, before Williams managed to regroup, claiming the next two games, before Kunta held her nerve to serve out the match on her second attempt.

Kunta will face either Carina Witthoeft or Saisai Zhang in the second round.
