Japanese qualifier Naomi Osaka has knocked No.15 seed Elina Svitolina out of the Australian Open with an impressive 6-4, 6-4 victory.

18-year-old Osaka, who was born in Osaka in Japan before moving to the United States when she was young, is currently ranked 127 in the world.

Svitolina's exit from the tournament makes it 15 seeds to be eliminated in the women's draw so far in the first two rounds.

Osaka will now face another huge test in the third round, when she comes up against the in form Victoria Azarenka.

Meanwhile, No.3 seed Garbine Muguruza advanced to the third round, easily accounting for Kirsten Flipkens 6-4, 6-2.
