Maria Sharapova has been denied a wildcard into both the wildcard draw and main draw of the 2017 French Open.
Sharapova, was has just returned from a drugs ban, is currently ranked 211th in the world and thus does not have enough rankings points to automatically qualify for a slam.
The former world No.1 was expected to at least be given a wildcard entry into the wildcard draw, but it was not to be, with president of the FFT, Bernard Giudicelli, making the announcement on Wednesday morning AEST.
“There can be a wildcard for return from injuries; there cannot be a wildcard for return from doping,” Giudicelli said.
“She might be very disappointed, but it's my responsibility to protect the game and a game played without any doubts of results.”
Incredibly, Sharapova was second favourite to win the French Open before the announcement.
Roland Garros begins on May 28 and runs until June 11.
