Suspended former world No. Maria Sharapova will learn the result of her appeal against a two-year doping ban in the first week of next month.

Sharapova received a two-year suspension from the sport in March this year, which was backdated to January, after testing positive to meldonium at this year's Australian Open.

She appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport seeking a reduced sanction.

"The Court of Arbitration for Sport will issue its decision in the arbitration procedure between Maria Sharapova and the International Tennis Federation (ITF) during the first week of October 2016," CAS said in a statement on Tuesday.
