Bernard Tomic is through to the quarter final of the Brisbane International after a sensational three set victory over Radek Stepanek.

Tomic recorded a 7-6, 4-6, 7-6 win over the 37-year-old journeyman.

Stepanek raced to a 5-2 lead in the first set, before Tomic clawed his way back to force the set to a tiebreak, before prevailing 8-6.

Stepanek then claimed the second set 6-4, before the pair went blow for blow in the third, as the set went to another tiebreak. Stepanek got an early mini break, racing to a 3-0 lead in the deciding set tiebreak. However, Tomic fought back once again, claiming the breaker 7-4, to advance to the next round.

Tomic will now face No.2 seed Kei Nishikori in the quarter final.
